Worst Injuries In WWE
Things can always go wrong
Profession Wrestling isn’t the safest sport in the world. In fact, they’re more likely to get injured than Basketball or Football or Hockey. The likelihood of injury here is extremely high.
With the amount of stunts performed by these daredevils, one has to wonder if that might be their last move ever. The history of risk taking in WWE would leave you in awe on how some of these people have survived such jumps and throws.
They’re trained to learn how to take the falls and when to bail out of them.
The simplest moves that you have performed countless of times could always be the downfall of your opponent and it’s unintentional.
Droz Gets Paralyzed
This is one that most people don’t like to talk about due to how severe this injury was. It has then been removed from any Raw episodes and reruns.
Droz was fairly new to the company. He’s been in WWE for about 2 years at that point. He had a pretty good future ahead of him it seemed. He had this charisma about him that just pulled you in. Plus, he had a pretty cool look to him.
In 1999, he had a match with D-Lo Brown and D-Lo set Droz up for a powerbomb. It was a move that D-Lo performed on a nightly basis. Rightfully so it’s one of the most basic moves to perform.
D-Lo lifted Droz up but slipped on some liquid in the ring and Droz fell awkwardly onto the mat. He laid there for minutes, not moving. Everyone in the arena was worried and the announcers couldn’t help but to side with the crowd as they were in a lost for words.
Droz ended up breaking two bones on his back and was paralyzed for life.
The bright side of this story was the fact that Droz forgave D-Lo Brown in a heartbeat. D-Lo begged Droz for forgiveness. Droz said that he knew the risks of being a wrestler and holds no grudge against D-Low Brown.
Stone Cold Breaks His Neck
We all know Stone Cold’s legacy and career in WWE. We looked up to him, he was a badass, he did things his way, he took shit from no one. He was the guy you wanted to be all the time. The biggest babyface in WWE during the Attitude Era.
Why was his career cut short? well, it’s because in 1997 during his match with Owen Hart, he broke his neck.
Owen Hart was one of the safest wrestlers to work with. He always made sure to keep his opponents safe with any move he decided to perform. Which is the job of every wrestler then and now.
Owen Hart set Stone Cold up for a piledriver. When you look closely at the footage you could see that Stone Cold’s neck was outside of Owen’s legs. His head had no protection from that point.
Once Owen executed the piledriver. Stone Cold’s head hit the canvas hard and tweaked his neck. Stone Cold laid in the ring paralyzed for a few minutes.
This was shocking to a lot of people because somehow Owen Hart botched this move. It was just one of those things that happen.
Stone Cold would have neck problems for the rest of this career and would soon succumb to those problems, thus cutting his career shorter than intended.
Bret Hart’s Concussion
The superkick heard around the world.
Bret Hart has been very open about his hatred in working with Goldberg. He always said that Goldberg wasn’t safe in the ring and would intentionally hurt his opponents to make himself look all mighter.
In 1999, Bret and Goldberg feuded for most of the year. It wasn’t the best feud really, you could tell it was just one sided.
Goldberg at the time was the biggest thing in wrestling. He WCW’s “Hulk Hogan” for that moment. So they felt it was only fitting to put him and Bret Hart together to create magic. The only magic they created was black magic, because Bret Hart was forced to retire after that match.
The match happened at Starrcade 1999. They were in the middle of the match when Goldberg out of nowhere hit Bret off guard with a superkick. It knocked him out for a second and he had a dazed look in his eyes.
Bret suffered a massive concussion from that kick.
The concussion was so bad that Bret Hart had to leave bitterly.
Sid Vicious Breaks His Leg
This one was a gruesome one to watch.
Sid Vicious was an imposing character. His entire gimmick was about him being bigger than everyone else and having a loose cannon attitude towards authority.
During his match with Scott Steiner, Sid decided to do something he has never done before, or would barely do. He decided to go to the top rope and perform a diving kick.
He did Scott with the kick and once his body landed on the ring. His leg completely snapped to the side. He tore his tibia and fibula.
The bones broke through through his skin.
The entire world watched in awe as his leg just dangled in the ring before the medical staff came out.
Big E Breaks His Neck
This is a more recent one
During a match on Smackdown, Ridge Holland suplexed Big E outside the ring and Big E landed straight on his neck.
The moment we saw that, we all knew something was wrong. the way his head hit the floor was just devastating.
Thankfully, Big E is okay and is currently recovering.
Wish you all the best Big E!
Mick Foley Breaks…EVERYTHING
if you watch wrestling, you know that Mick Foley has had every possible injury you could think of.
From losing his ear, to blood transfusions, to losing his teeth. This man has been the ER room than most us will see in a lifetime. Through all that hell he has put his body through, he’s still alive and well.
It was in 1998, during the infamous Hell In A Cell match with The Undertaker where the earth stood still for we just witnessed.
Undertaker threw Mick Foley off the cell structure and he crashed onto the announcers table.
Mick suffered a concussion, a dislocated shoulder, multiple puncture wounds, a hole in his lip, and a dislocated jaw.
Yes, he suffered all of that in one single moment!
With his determination to make your moneys worth, he actually finished the match with such pain. I don’t know how he did it.
The match forever changed wrestling and is still one of the most terrifying moments in WWE history.
Joey Mercury Shatters His Nose
in 2006, MNM were the hottest Tag Team in the company. They were young and hungry and were great heels. They were managed by Melina only added fuel to the fire when they did promos.
WWE had so much confidence in them that they decided to put them up against The Hardy Boyz to elevate them.
But, in a match at Armageddon 2006. Joey Mercury was suppose to catch a ladder and he missed it and it clashed with his face. His face exploded in blood immediately.
Blood gushed out of his nose like a waterfall. It was just never ending. I watched it live and my jaw dropped on the amount of blood he was losing.
Thank god it was just his nose that he broke. With the way the ladder spot looked, it could’ve been way, way worse.
