Anything goes when you’re live

WWE or anything wrestling promotions are very careful in what they wanna show on a weekly basis. Usually a script is written and the talent is expected to follow it from point A to point B. It’s more of a safety guide for themselves to make sure they’re on track.

But, just like in anything you plan, things tend to go sideways and the unexpected happens. When you’re live on T.V anything goes and you can’t do anything but to just go along with it even if you don’t like it.

Wrestlers are Einsteins when it comes to doing improv. They probably the best mindset when it comes to the unexpected, although sometimes you can see the wrestlers trying to cope with what just happened, often of times there’s moment that just go perfectly within the segment and you wouldn’t even know it was right off the bat.

Riddle Forgets His Lines

Riddle has become one of the most beloved wrestling figures in the modern era. He’s completely over with the fans and his gimmick is a breathe of fresh air from all those serious wrestlers.

He comes out on a scooter and does his “surfer” talk.

There was a moment backstage where he was passing by Asuka and started to talk to her. He forgot what to say and looked right at the camera and said “Let’s do it again”.

Asuka looked awkwardly around, speechless.

Personally, it was so of Riddle to do something like this. It just went well with his character.

The Curtain Call

In professional wrestling “kayfabe” is the holy-grail for the companies. It’s where you stay in character till the cameras are off. If you’re a bad guy, you must remain bad on camera or anywhere fans can recognize you. If you’re a good guy, well it’s easier you can just be yourself and be the hero.

This didn’t happen at Madison Square Garden in 1996.

In 1996, it was well known that Kevin Nash and Razor Ramon were leaving WWE for WCW. During the house show in MSG, they certainly went out with a bang.

The Kliq, who was the backstage crew Kevin and Razor were a part of, came to the ring and celebrated with them for one last time.

What’s so wrong about that?

We had good guys and bad guys hugging it out in front of thousands of people. You couldn’t do that back then. It broke character. It was like watching Darth Vader hugging Luke behind the scenes and ruining your imagination.

In the end, Triple H took the major backlash of this act, as he was on an almost full year of losing every match and got no opportunities.

Shane McMahon Bounces Off Glass

Shane McMahon might’ve not been the best wrestler, but he sure as hell knew how to put on an entertaining match. He used his daredevil instincts to make the most in his performances.

At King Of The Ring 2002, Shane faced off against Kurt Angle in a Street Fight. It was a hell of a match and the spots were definitely memorable.

Kurt was suppose to suplex Shane through the glass of the entrance. Once he did, the glass didn’t break and Shane fell head-first onto the concrete. There was visibly confusion in Kurt’s eyes.

All Kurt Angle could hear is “Try again, try again” from Shane. Kurt repeated the move and the glass again didn’t break. Kurt didn’t want to continue the spot, he begged Shane to change his mind. Shane was adamant and needed the spot to flourish.

On the third suplex, Kurt was finally able to put Shane through the glass.

There was a mix-up with the production crew and the gimmicked glass ended up being real glass. Vince was SECONDS from calling the match off.

Brock Lesnar Punches Braun Strowman

During a Triple-Threat match at Royal Rumble 2018, Braun kneed Brock a bit too hard, which caused Brock to actually get really pissed. Braun during the entire match seemed to be a bit “too-hyped” up and looked to actually be hitting everyone.

Brock took offense to it and nailed Braun with a massive punch and shouted “slow down!” to Braun.

Braun was visibly dumbfounded by the punch.

The good news is that once they were backstage, they laughed it off and kept their friendship.

Brock understood that you can get lost in the moment while in the ring.

Chris Jericho Punches Shawn Michaels Wife

This feud was suppose to signal Shawn’s retirement in 2008. The feud itself was the reason WWE ended blood sadly.

They were doing a promo and Chris was suppose to “punch” Shawn’s wife, but in reality Chris REALLY did punch his wife straight in the nose. It seemed like Chris leaned a bit too forward and landed it once Shawn ducked.

She had a gnarly fat lip as a result of the botch.

Shawn was furious backstage with Chris and was seconds from actually giving him a punch of his own.
