Rhea Ripley — Chyna Comparison & Differences
Similar work with obvious differences
Throughout the history of WWE there hasn’t been a lot of powerhouse women wrestlers who bring legitimate strength, power, and intimidation. Usually when you think of a WWE women wrestler, you tend to go for the likes of Trish Stratus, Lita, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, etc. Women that are amazing in the ring but they don’t have that “monster” presence.
Rhea Ripley has been proving to be a huge monster for WWE.
Rhea has been able to intimidate both the men and women on the roster. With her gothic-look and menacing power moves, she’s a force of nature to say the least. She ain’t afraid to wrestle with people like Brock Lesnar.
Chyna was the same way. She wasn’t scared to wrestle with the men, she encouraged it. She would manhandle anyone who got in her. She became to first-ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion. She was the first women to enter the men’s Royal Rumble in 1999. She was truly a trailblazer for women in wrestling.
Many fans have led to many comparisons towards Rhea and Chyna.
Let’s take a look at the similarities and differences.
Similar
Romancing The Stone
Chyna is typically known for being a total badass in and out the ring. When she was in DX, she was brought in as their muscle. Many people still remember one of her most memorable storylines in WWE. That storyline being the romance between her and Eddie Guerrero.
This was her opportunity to showcase more of her personality. This showed that she was more than just “muscles”. She was human and she had a heart. She needed love. This allowed her to broaden her horizons and kinda break free from what she was in the late 90's.
Rhea Ripley is in a similar nature right now. As we all know she’s Dominik Mysterio’s “Mami” and he’s her “papi”. Even though Rhea and Dominik aren’t an official on-screen couple, there’s always hints of them flirting.
This has kinda allowed Rhea to show off more of her women-side instead of just being that badass chick who looks like she will kill you in a bar.
Working With Men
In WWE it’s extremely rare nowadays for the women to fight alongside the men. It almost feels like something from the past. That even more the case back in the day where they just needed to separate them.
Rhea and Chyna are obviously an exception to this rule.
When both women got in the ring. It just felt or feels natural, like they’re meant to be there. They don’t get scare as easy as the men as well. If they needed to they will body-slam you through a table.
This is a fair reason why fans are so fond about Rhea Ripley. She never says no to a challenge from ANYONE. We’ve seen her put some men in their places.
In fact, Rhea tries to antagonize the men into stepping into the ring with her.
Physiques
This is by far the most obvious way that Chyna and Rhea are alike. Both have extremely well toned bodies. Rhea right now is the most jacked women in the company. Chyna was the most jacked women in her time.
Personally, with these types of bodies they tend to be taken more serious.
You put Rhea in line with todays WWE women and you will know the difference immediately.
In-Ring Style
They’re in-ring style is very, very similar to one another. As two powerhouse wrestlers. They should be allowed to showcase their strength, right? Yes and they do.
Both women tend to toy with their opponents in the ring. Showing us that they’re no match for them.
This is something Rhea has been doing a lot. She overpowers her opponents and maybe allows them to get a shot in, but when enough is enough, she strikes with fierce offense and slays her opponents like a meat patty.
Factions
Working with big factions is a sheer way of making an impact in WWE. It allows you the opportunity to get over with fans whether you’re a babyface or a heel.
Ever since Rhea joined The Judgement Day the comparisons just grew even more. Chyna being in one of the most famous factions ever, DX.
Rhea has helped Judgement Day reach new highs as did Chyna for DX.
Both women just fit so well in their respective factions.
Differences
Promo Quality
Even though Chyna could talk on the mic, the overall difference between Rhea and Chyna is really broad.
Chyna hasn’t really always been remembered for her promos. In fact, she barely did them when you really look at her work. She mostly let her abilities do the talking.
On the other hand, Rhea tends to deliver one hell of a promo every time she’s given the chance. She has no problem with calling people out or calling out the fans for not liking her.
Rhea isn’t afraid to walk around ringside and toy with the people or security guards for the matter. She does all this heelish things outside the ring that make her seem annoying, but it’s just the perfect blend.
Gimmicks
As strong as they both look, one major difference is their gimmicks. While they both did go through a few gimmick changes in their career. Rhea’s change was significant in her rise to fame.
Rhea brings this dark-gothic presence with her that says that nothing matters but her in the moment. The feeling of never knowing when she’s going to strike.
Chyna was more bareback in her appearance.
Main Roster
When Chyna came into the WWE she was immediately on the main roster. I mean, there was no other way of not being on Raw as there wasn’t NXT in her time. She immediately joined DX and she sky-rocketed from there.
Which was incredible for Chyna because prior to that she only had a handful of matches in the independent scene.
Rhea on the other hand had to really grind her teeth to get to where she is today. She came into NXT as this bubbly Australian wrestler. She was both in NXT UK and NXT where she really excelled in her craft.
Rhea got the call up for the main roster and here we are now.
