Is AEW Coming Up Too Fast?

AEW is still relatively new to the game. With only being around for 3 years now.

This company has blown up in such short time. They have had great TV ratings. They put on a hell of a good show so far. They have real compelling storylines happening. They even have the action and violence we wrestling fans crave in this time of the “PG” era.

Now, the question has been lingering on my mind for months. Are they coming up too fast in such a short time? I mean it’s something to really think about. Because they could easily burn out within a handful of years or they could become the biggest wrestling company in the world. Yes, bigger than WWE as of right now.

AEW tends to sign a lot of talent from all the promotions around the world. Lately, most of the signings have been from Ex-WWE wrestler who have been released. It kinda feels like they’re following the WCW band wagon that was happening in the late 90’s. You know, the one where one wrestler leaves WWE and then goes to WCW.

AEW seems to take pride in signing these specific people.

I will say that AEW is profoundly smart in their business motto. They do business with ANY promotion that is willing to do the business with them. They leave the doors open. Whether it’d be New Japan, Ring Of Honor, Impact Wrestling, Etc. AEW isn’t afraid of bringing in young talent and let them shine. This sounds like a “You do one for me, I do one for you” type of deal.

The one thing that scares me about the company imploding is the fact that they are adding a lot of shows throughout the week. They have their flagship show AEW Dynamite, then came AEW Dark, after that came AEW Elevation, and now they are premiering AEW Rampage. That’s three shows in one week now.

Though many would argue that it isn’t enough. WWE did have TOO MANY shows in one week. Raw, Smackdown, Velocity, and then Sunday Night Heat.

Are they biting more than they could chew?

I could only guess that they will be adding more and more shows in the coming months or years. So much so, that I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an AEW show everyday of the week. Which would be for their wrestlers. As AEW has a schedule that is appealing to wrestlers. They work less days and shows, but still get the big bucks (no pun intended).

The workless days for more pay motto is something WWE should look at so they don’t burn out their superstars.

For right now, it seems that the people behind AEW are confident enough that they will bring us material that we will relish and talk about for the remainder of the week leading up to the next weekly show. They seem to be smart and intact with every decision. Tony Khan is a smart man. I think he would know when the product is becomes stale and would need a new direction.

For now, AEW right now is in their “Attitude Era” right now. The matches bring on the filthy. The character arcs grow by the week. I can’t begin to say how impressive their live shows are. I’ve been to two of them and man they’re a blast.

Overall, AEW may be coming up too strong, too fast, but it’s working from my point of view. They get me excited to see what’s next. I could honestly say I get more excited for an episode of AEW Dynamite instead of Monday Night Raw. As much as I thought I’d never say that…there it is.
