Keep it going!

Throughout the history of the WWE, they’ve been able to create an insane amount of rivalries that went tooth and nail in their fights. whether it was for a championship, a woman, bragging rights, etc.

Some of these feuds have let fans to chant “fight forever” during the match. This is a great indication that the story is working and the in-ring entertainment is completely on point.

Most of the feuds that have that chant going are between some of the greatest WWE superstars to lace up their boots.

No matter how long the matches lasted or how many promos we got, we always wanted more, maybe some of us even wanted the entire show to be about this feud and see how far they’re willing to go.

Edge & Christian Vs The Hardy Boyz

Two of the most decorated tag teams in the history of the WWE waged war during the Attitude Era. They raised the bar of what a tag team can really do. They were in the first-ever Tag Team Ladder Match at No Mercy 1999, to which they got a standing ovation about the match.

It’s firmly believed that these two teams were the antidote to where Vince and WWE started to look at tag team wrestling in a different way, there was something there. Many teams started to get a push about the success of these two teams.

In came The Dudley Boyz, where they solidified themselves as one of the top tag teams in the company. Their famous TLC matches are stuff of legends. All three teams had a “special” weapon of their own that they loved to use.

Edge & Christian and The Hardy Boyz did battle in ladder matches, steel cage matches, TLC matches.

Matt Hardy and Edge had a real-life rivalry as Lita chose to be with Edge when Matt was hurt and recovering. This lead to them actually almost killing each other on live T.V.

There might never be such chemistry between teams like how with was with these two.

Bret Hart Vs Shawn Michaels

A rivalry that had twist and turns in every direction. Two of the most popular WWE superstars of the time. Both had huge egos and scores to settle in the 90's.

These two men took the mantle in a time where WCW was on top of the world and the likes of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage were conquering the world in WCW.

Bret and Shawn came from similar backgrounds. Both were in famous tag teams. Bret being in the Hart Foundations and Shawn being in The Rockers. Both teams battled on a weekly basis in the early 90’s, which catapulted the tag team division to new heights.

Bret Hart was the first to breakout of the tag team division and actually be quite the best single competitor in the company. Shawn was given the opportunity in 1996 to be the main guy. Now, with both men thinking their the best in the world, that could create a problem and it did.

Shawn lost to Bret for the WWE Championship in 1992 and that started to ever-growing hunger for Shawn to become the best. This feud went all the way to Wrestlemania 12 where Shawn finally realized his dream and became world champion.

From that night, their friendship would end and the problems mounted.

They were set to meet at Wrestlemania 13 for the championship, but famously so Shawn Michaels “lost his smile” months prior to the event. This lead to many thinking that Shawn didn’t want to lose the belt to Bret. He rather relinquish the belt than get pinned by him.

Shawn told the entire world on Raw that Bret has had “Sunny days”, which was insinuating that Bret was having an affair with Sunny, which was true. Things just couldn’t get uglier right?

In came Survivor Series 1997, the infamous Montreal screwjob where Vince and Shawn Michaels screwed Bret Hart. Bret was planning on leaving WWE for WCW but Vince wasn’t sure if Bret was going to leave with the WWE belt or not.

The animosity between the two lasted for decades until they finally made amends in recent years. It was like a truck load was off their shoulders.

For all the drama and broken friendships along the way, when both men were in the ring, they made sure that we knew who the top dogs were. They gave us their all and we always wanted to see more and more and more of them.

The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin

Two of the best to ever talk on the microphone. Two of the most famous wrestlers of all time. Two men who took WWE to new heights.

The promos between the two were always so entertaining and they just fed us each other. The chemistry between the two was out of this world. They didn’t need a script or direction. All they needed was to lock eyes and they did the rest.

Their Wrestlemania main event matches are some of the most best we’ve ever seen. The amount of pain and struggle they went through just to be number 1 is something different.

Who can forget the crazy twist of events at Wrestlemania 17 when Stone Cold went heel and joined Vince McMahon’s side just because he was so desperate for the gold?

Undertaker and Mankind

When Mick Foley came into WWE as Mankind no one expected him to do the things he did. He was this weird, ominous character that seemed like was gonna last only a handful of years before going way.

Vince was confident in Mick and put him to work with The Undertaker, which we all know that if you’re working with The Undertaker, you’re a somebody whether you know it or not.

This was when we saw another side of Undertaker. Before Mankind, Undertaker was invincible. No one could step up to the deadman.

Mankind was able to brutally beat down Undertaker in a way where we actually felt that Undertaker had emotions. We felt for him.

They first battled at King Of The Ring 1996 where where Mankind surprisingly so beat Undertaker. Then they battled in the first ever Boiler Room match at Summerslam 1996, this was the night that sent this feud to the next level. We saw Paul Bearer turn on Undertaker and join Mankind.

This lead to another “first ever” match which was the Buried Alive Match. Undertaker won the match but Mankind had the last laugh. He ended up burying Undertaker, where we thought he was gone forever, only to have Undertaker’s hand pop out of the dirt.

This opened the door for their most famous match.

It was at the King Of The Ring 1998 that they did their most violent match to date, Hell In A Cell. Undertaker threw Mankind off the top of the cell to the announcers table, to everyone’s shock, Mankind wasn’t finished yet, even tho he just broke his ribs. He climbed up the cell again only for Undertaker to chokeslam through the roof of the cell and landing hard in the ring.

Undertaker and Mankind had a feud that pushed the limits of WWE and wrestling. Violence was on display and that’s what kept it alive.

The Rock and Triple H

One of the rivalries that kept the Attitude Era going strong. We had Stone Cold and Vince, Mankind and Undertaker, Stone Cold and The Rock. But no feud went longer than The Rock and Triple H.

Both men first met in the ring before they were even stars, before they even had their famous names. The Rock was “Rocky Maivia” and Triple H was “Hunter Hearst Hemsley”. They fought over the Intercontinental Championship.

Both had a different reasons for trying to be breakout stars. For Triple H it was the “curtain call” that almost ruined his career. For The Rock it was simply trying to connect with the crowd after not having much going for him as Rocky Maivia.

When did they prove themselves?

Summerslam 1998. They had a Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship. It was a hard-hitting and gruesome match that propelled them into super stardom. Triple H may have won the belt, but Rocky made it to the main event.

The Rock and Triple H both respectfully became WWE Champion in the same years to come. The back and forth was good T.V. The Rock started to do his famous promos on Triple H and made the feuds even more entertaining, by always making fun of Triple H’s way of talking.

Watching these two go at it was just magic. You knew what you were going to get but at the same time you never knew what you were going to get. It was a revolving door of twists.

What made their feud even better was the way it was able to incorporate others into it while still having that core element of where it actually started from. They were able to get Kurt Angle in on it. Stone Cold. Stephanie McMahon. Vince McMahon. Undertaker. The list goes on.

Their feud never truly ended as their final match together was just before Summerslam 2002. We never got a real ending to it.

This had left the doors open for them to continue it however they want. Maybe even one last Wrestlemania match.

Despite the outcome of things, this is a rivalry that WWE keeps in their back pocket because there’s so many ways to bring it back. This is truly a “fight forever” feud.
