Best Booking Decisions

And the rest is history

WWE has been know for putting some of the greatest Pay-Per-Views of life while also putting on some of the worst ones. The good news is that even though some of the Pay-Per-Views are bad, there’s always a hidden gem in them.

WWE depends on the crowd reactions to successfully put on a great show. The superstars feed of the energy. Executing the perfect PPV isn’t the easiest thing in the world. Well, no PPV is ever perfect per say, but sometimes it’s pretty close.

Mind you, there’s been great booking decisions that have been said and written but thrown out before it sees the light of day.

Here I’ve come up with some of what I think are one of the best booking decisions

JBL Vs Eddie Guerrero — The Great American Bash 2004

This was one of the greatest rivalries in the company. The chemistry between the two was just out of this world. Their back and forth’s were always on point and they knew how to get the crowd going.

With their feud reaching its boiling point. It was only fitting that they had to end it on a big note. The match had to have a stipulation where both men had no advantage over the other. That match was the Texas Bull Rope match.

The object of the match was to keep your opponent down long enough for you to touch all four corners of the ring. It sounds easy right? Nope, it wasn’t. You forgot that your wrist was tied to either end of the Bull Rope and your opponent could yank you down at any minute.

The match went back and forth, with moments that saw you gasping as your favorite wrestler was seconds from winning, only to have it cut short in a blink of an eye. The match was a bloody one too, which only added more to the match.

In the end, JBL was crowned WWE Champion after Kurt Angle reviewed the footage and we saw JBL’s elbow hit the turnbuckle first before Eddie’s hands touched it.

It was a great twist to the story and only made JBL gain way more heat for his heel character.

Beck Lynch Vs Sasha Banks — Hell In A Cell 2019

The Hell In A Cell PPV itself wasn’t the best. To be honest, I was looking at my phone for most of the night because it just wasn’t hitting the right spots. They could’ve done better really.

Thankfully, this match happened and saved it.

This match threw everything out, even the kitchen sink. Before the match even started Becky attacked Sasha as the cell structure lowered down.

From there on, you knew what you were in for.

Sasha and Becky used every tool and weapon they could get their hands on. From ladders, tables, chairs, the cell itself, even a kendo stick chair. They grabbed anything that would hurt each other.

Becky slammed Sasha onto a bed of chairs before doing the Disarm-Her on Sasha, which made her tap out.

I think people forget how good of a match this was.

Daniel Bryan Wins WWE Champion At Wrestlemania 30

Daniel Bryan was the ultimate underdog that year. Triple H threw everything his way to make his life a living hell. Daniel wasn’t having it and ran through all the obstacles that came his way.

It came down to the main event of Wrestlemania 30. All the chips were in. This was the moment he needed to happen. This was where he would prove to everyone that he wasn’t a “B player”.

Daniel took one hell of a beating the whole night. Before the main event, he was in the opening contest, a Triple Threat match to determine who enter the main event. His chest was bruised up after the bout.

You could only imagine how much pain he felt that night.

Daniel ended up winning his first WWE Championship. The celebration was deafening. We all wanted him to win. We all wanted him to shut up The Authority. We all had tears in our eyes. It was the perfect storm.

It was a moment where you thought “If he could do it, I could do it to”. You could overcome anything to get to where you want to be in life. It was quite the inspirational story in my book.

Chavo Guerrero Vs Rey Mysterio — The Great American Bash 2004

I know what you’re thinking…Chavo? That’s Eddie Guerrero’s cousin right? Really? YES!

I believe this was the greatest match in his career. Not to mention that according to The Great American Bash List, it’s considered one of the best matches in its PPV history.

It was for the Crusierweight Championship, and I think it had a fairly good story leading up to it.

Rey took a lot of punishment during the match. Chavo pretty much had the upper hand throughout most of the match.

We got a real good “Lucha Libre” type of match here. Both men showcased their brilliance in the ring. We got a sense that both men wanted to “wow” us with their in-ring wrestling style.

Rey Mysterio retained his title. Proving that he was the king of that division.

Triple H Vs Cactus Jack — Royal Rumble 2000

This match was one of the first matches I watched Live on PPV. I was about 6 years old and in my mind I didn’t know what to expect. I thought both men were the coolest people on the planet.

Their feud is the stuff of legends

This was Triple H’s chance to prove himself as the main guy. That he could handle the pressure of being champion. That he wasn’t just that guy from “DX”. There was more to him and man did he prove it alright.

This Street Fight was as violent as you imagined it to be. From barb-wire, to thumbtacks, to chairs, to broken tables, etc. The blood oozed out of both men. Triple H had a piece of wood stuck inside of his leg and continued through the pain. It was a recipe for greatness.

Triple H did retain his WWF Championship, which only proved to everyone in the back and us the fans that he was ready for the spotlight. He could very well carry the company on his shoulders and no one was going to take that away from him.

Triple H’s career sky-rocketed from here and it was a damn good decision.

Roman Reigns Turns Heel

The heel turn that everybody wanted and finally got.

He made his return at Summerslam and speared everyone in sight. It came out of the blue. Even though it was during the Covid Pandemic, the reactions from the people in the Thunderdome was insanity. You could hear their screams through the screens.

A week after his return, he regained his WWE Championship.

I was thinking…okay?…his back and he’s just the same old bland person. No substance or anything. Are they forcing us to like him again?

Not at all, he did a complete 180 turn and shocked the world when he aligned himself with the one and only Paul Heyman…and that’s not a prediction!

From there on, WWE has been his playground and his been tearing up the joint with The Bloodline. Now, he’s the longest reigning WWE Champion in WWE history. Which is a testament to what he could do.

This is the best damn decision of the century!
